Flashman Cameron's put-down of his own MP Douglas Carswell

Order. Let us have some order in the House. I want to hear Mr Douglas Carswell.

Mr Carswell:

A few weeks ago in this House, I asked the Prime Minister to what extent he believed that the Whitehall machine—the Sir Humphrey factor—was frustrating reform. He assured us that it was not. According to the Financial Times, in Malaysia last week the PM said:

“I can tell you, as Prime Minister, it”—

“Yes Minister”—

“is true to life.”

Can he tell us what has happened to make him change his mind?

There are a few occasions when I think that my hon. Friend does need a bit of a sense of humour.

Douglas Carswell has been writing and complaining of the corruption and undue powers wiothin our Civil Service. Cameron, a bullying product of the same system must be made to provide an answer!

Greece and our money

John Redwood MP, one of the few astute spokesmen in Westminster on the EU, chooses to write on the traffic light situation in and around Parliament on his blog this morning, this follows yesterday's offering on roads and before that on yachts. Prior to that post we did have something on Greece, but that was long before yesterday's harrowing IMF proposal.

For detail on that we must rely on the Wall Street Journal who fifteen minutes ago updated this comment, from Washington, where it remains the dead of night. This article presently concludes as follows:

Some experts and policy makers maintain the world needs far more money than even the IMF is seeking in order to contain the growing crisis. The $500 billion proposed by the IMF "is not nearly sufficient to provide bailouts for Italy and Spain," said Desmond Lachman, an economist at the American Enterprise Institute and former IMF official. He estimates that Italy could need $750 billion and Spain could need $450 billion for bailouts. "Additional money would have to be ponied up by the Europeans."
Those and other nations in the euro zone also face growing economic strains, raising the risk that they will need more than outside loans to recover.

It was 30th May 2010 that I appear to have first headlined a posting stating "Greece must exit the Euro and Default" concluding it as follows:

This blog has been stating this obvious fact as it appears in this posting's headline for some considerable time, in fact ever since the so-called Greek crisis first hit the headlines! Other common sense on the present terrible situation is in other postings below this.

Time and again since then I have blogged on the futility of pouring money into Greece, with no Euro exit nor devaluation possible and that it would would surely bring the world to its present point.

Little could I ever have guessed, however, that when we finally arrived at the crunch, even our brightest MPs would seek distraction with topics such as traffic lights, roads and yachts. At least Douglas Carswell MP yesterday recognised the acute danger the country faces, his Party leadership, in thrall to Clegg, clearly do not!

Weasel words and sophistry from Britain's Prime Minister, David Cameron!

The following was the exact wording of the question,  put by Douglas Carswell, Conservative MP for Clacton, to the Prime Minister, yesterday in Parliament, as recorded by Hansard which may be read from this link:

Mr Douglas Carswell (Clacton) (Con): Back in July the Financial Secretary to the Treasury told a Committee of this House, with regard to IMF obligations:

“We have an agreement to fund up to £20 billion, broadly speaking.”—[Official Report, Second Delegated Legislation Committee, 5 July 2011; c. 9.]

Pretty broad, it turns out. We now hear that the figure is closer to £40 billion. Does my right hon. Friend agree that it is vital to level with the British people, with no weasel words or sophistry, and that Ministers have an obligation to be absolutely straight about what they plan to do with other people’s money?

The Prime Minister: Let me be absolutely clear about this. There are two sorts of money that the UK provides to the IMF: money through our quota, which is effectively through our shareholding, and money through loans and other arrangements. There have been three votes in this House in the last three years on all the elements of

the IMF money. As I have said, if it comes to giving extra support for the IMF, we want to do that within the headroom that has been set.

Readers of this blog may make up their own minds as to whether this Prime Minister is even making the smallest effort to fulfil an obligation to be "absolutely straight about what they plan to do with  other people’s money."

Reading back over this blog for the past few days and entering "David Cameron Global Governance" into a Google Search bar will reveal that it is not just the huge and unquantified sums of money that he spends in dubious causes, that should worry the country, but the objectives he secretly follows that should also be of huge concern.

252 MPS become self-proclaimed Traitors

On Wednesday evening there was a debate in the House of Commons on the coming EU budget for 2011. Read here. An amendment was proposed as follows:

Amendment proposed: (b), leave out from 'the financial year 2011' to end and add

'is concerned at the above-inflation increase being made to Britain's EU budget contribution; believes that, at a time when the Government is poised to make reductions in public spending elsewhere, it is wrong to increase that contribution; and calls on the Government to reduce Britain's EU budget contribution'. -(Mr. Carswell.)

This was defeated by 252 votes to 42. Those MPs who voted 'No' to this amendment, or contrived not to vote at all, will in due course (perhaps starting from next week, when the true scope of the cuts Britain faces will begin to be revealed) be brought to account by those who must eventually return Governance and our national revenues to this country. Among the 42 MPs who voted for the amendment, may we Britons at last detect the formation of a rump reaching a number that could eventually bring the EU subservient Coalition Government down, especially given the realitythat the spendthrift EU now controls most aspects of our national lives even at this point of near bankruptcy. Re-ratification of the Lisbon Treaty

There will be an EU Intergovernmental Conference next month which will be followed by the need for a re-ratification of the Lisbon Treaty by the 27 National and now neutered Parliaments. This is necessary because of confusions regarding the numbers of the troughing MEPs. With the euro currency in crisis it seems unlikely that any national parliament would be willing to re-ratify the clearly useless Lisbon Treaty without a referendum, but this could provide particular difficulties for David Cameron, given the wording of his party's manifesto for the recent election and this contribution from one of his MPs, Douglas Carswell, on The Politics Show today: "I think this is an opportunity for us to table an amendment to try to trigger a referendum, I think we should have a referendum and I think given that we've given an undertaking as a party to hold a referendum if there was any further revision to the European treaties, we need to honour the promises that were made before the election and stick to that and hold that referendum."
