Decadence in Public Administration

There was a time in Britain when Civil Servants, if not their political co-administrators, could be largely relied upon to act in the main part, in the overall wider public interest. Note this passage from Arthur Herman's "To Rule the Waves" -

'Everyone admitted the Admiralty was the most efficient of the three service headquarters, with a deep sense of its own traditions and history. As Britain's oldest continuous department of state, it was still "an absolutely first-class organization," said one outside observer, and "in a class by itself."

But the pressure to conform to the demands of modern bureaucracy was too much. On March 31, 1964, the Admiralty Board met for the last time, surrendered its letters patent, and hauled down its flag, after three hundred and thirty-six years of continuous existence. From now on, it was just one more set of dreary offices in the Ministry of Defense, looking forward with dread every year for the next Defense Survey and the next round of cuts.'

Worse, far worse, was of course to follow as Britain's public administration, (largely as a result of the pure power lust and private greed of Britain's incumbent civil servants,) became adapted and merged to fit the purposes of the European federalist conspirators. All standards quickly became debased as domestic administrators viewed and came to ape the tactics of their Continental superiors in obtaining the maximum possible personal returns for the minimum possible input and effort.

Now HS2 proceeds in spite of the complete farce and travel disruption and huge costs increases resulting from the introduction of a similar mad-cap EU scheme "Fyra" between Amsterdam and Brussels, presently suspended.

The general public largely made up by the taxpaying middle classes are being squeezed to death by the greed of the very wealthy, running the corporate giants who control the bureaucracy, and the entitlement-greedy and often idle benefit claimants below. Their one opportunity to escape this squeeze appears to be to join the public servants gorging from an ever diminishing and increasingly EU-controlled tax take.

Politicians cannot separate themselves from the corruption!

Coverage of the corruption allegations in the UK media is, perhaps understandably, sparse this morning. The following comes from the IHT:

In another blow to Mr. Murdoch, related this time to The News of the World, a lawyer for the Leveson Inquiry said Rebekah Brooks, a former Murdoch executive, was apparently informed by the police in 2006 that detectives had evidence that the cellphones of dozens of celebrities, politicians and sports figures had been illegally hacked by an investigator working for the newspaper.
The disclosure, contained in a September 2006 e-mail from a company lawyer to the editor of The News of the World, Andy Coulson, is highly significant. Until late in 2010, Ms. Brooks, Mr. Coulson and other officials at News International, the British newspaper arm of News Corporation, repeatedly asserted that the hacking had been limited to a single “rogue reporter” — the paper’s royal correspondent, Clive Goodman. The assertion was rendered implausible, at best, by the fact that the police had information that so many hacking victims existed, and that so few of them had anything to do with the royal family.
Monday’s disclosures could not have come at a more inopportune time for Mr. Murdoch. In recent weeks, morale at The Sun hit a low point after a number of senior editors and reporters were arrested on suspicion of illegally paying sources.
Blog editors emphasis and text enlargement

Britain's leaders will eventually have to face up to and account for, ALL the implications of the Murdoch empire's involvement in Britain's power structures and politics, not least with the presence in Downing Street of Andy Coulson during the opening stages of the present administration by this Coalition Government.

The hacking of supposed celebrities was the means to obtain the circulation which was required to obtain the power which was exercised to contol the British political process. That point will have to be eventually addressed!

Britain's public officials being paid off for years!

As I was only saying just this morning, read here!

Britain has become wide-open to corruption following the example set from the top during the years of the New Labour Governments of Blair and Brown who simultaneously bankrupted the nation AND handed power to Brussels!

This is how the matter is being reported in the USA this afternoon, linked here:

UK police describe network of corrupt officials, illegal payments by Murdoch's The Sun tabloid

LONDON - Rupert Murdoch's top-selling U.K. tabloid, The Sun, had a culture of making illegal payments to corrupt public officials in return for stories, a senior British police officer said Monday.

Later that same article continues with the following:

Akers said journalists paid not only police officers but also military, health and other government officials. One official received a total of 80,000 pounds ($126,912) over several years, Akers said, adding that police also are investigating whether officials were placed on retainers by newspapers.

She said "a network of corrupted officials" had provided The Sun with stories that were mostly "salacious gossip."

"There appears to have been a culture at The Sun of illegal payments, and systems have been created to facilitate such payments whilst hiding the identity of the officials receiving the money," said Akers, who is in charge of a police investigation into phone hacking and police bribery.

She said one journalist had "over several years received over 150,000 pounds ($238,000) in cash to pay his sources, a number of whom were public officials." She said payments to public officials went far beyond acceptable practices such as buying them a meal or a drink.

The country became used to its politicians being disgraced during the expenses scandal. This is on an entirely different level. It is inconceivable that these practices were not known about at the highest levels of the Civil Service and Government. The appointment of Sir John Chilcot to head the Iraq inquiry, after it was already publicly known and revealed that he had received undeclared payments from a foreign wind electricity promoting company, is surely evidence enough for all beneath his exalted pay grade, to believe that such practises had become widely acceptable?

The British Establishment should tonight be in deep crisis! Not least because of the disgraceful police inaction since deep suspicions became self-evident so long ago!

At last! An official partial condemnation of the complete corruption of Britain's politics

Sir Christopher Kelly, chairman of the Committee on Standards in Public Life, has spoken out against one of the most blatant aspects of the complete corruption of Britain's poltical processes:

The video, first linked here has been removed for constant intrusions on other postings. This blog in future will not embed Telegraph videos!

The video is from the Daily Telegraph, the accompanying article is linked here. Unhappily the video ends with a plea for the public funding of political parties, which is the last thing the country needs given the ingrained powers of the existing main parties and the dreadfully low morals and characters of those who lead them!

Now for the corruption from the EU and within Government services!

We are finally scratching the surface of the obscenities, arising from the cosying up to the press, by senior politicians, of our two thoroughly rotten main poltical parties. Similarly, with the expenses scandal, some of the worst abuses by our elected politicians and peers within the House of Lords has finally begun to be addressed.

The nation cannot pretend that matters either end there, or just with the police.

This blog has several times in the past reported on certain blatant abuses of power within the civil service, all of which have gone completely ignored elsewhere. It would be the height of stupidity for any to believe that there are not similar abuses underway within local government and the EU regional organisations, which will eventually point us to the corrupt centre of all excesses, those delivered to us by our membership of the European Union.

The non-declaration by certain peers of their EU pensions in supporting amendments to the European Union Bill, in the past few months, is yet another area worthy of urgent and full investigation.

We must remember, in the coming days, that the obvious corruption in Downing Street, is merely giving us a small glimpse of where New Labour and Cameron's Conservatives have taken our nation!

EU Commission to monitor national corruption! Perhaps it isn't up to Brussels' world beating levels?

The report from EU Observer, left me gob-smacked yesterday on first reading, but I was distracted by blogging on the disaster unfolding in Greece, brought upon us all by the thoroughly corrupt EU.

This morning I have returned to the article and it is as horrific/hysterical (take your pick,) as I at first thought. How can a sane individual react to this type of complete garbage, some quotes from this link.

A special report on what EU member states are doing to fight corruption and how cases are actually solved is to be drafted by the European Commission every two years, home affairs commissioner Cecilia Malmstrom has announced.
"No country in the EU is totally free from corruption. Four out of five EU citizens regard corruption as a major problem in their country. This is a serious challenge, socially, politically and economically," she said during a press conference on Monday (6 June).

The new mechanism, which will provide non-binding evaluations and recommendations of the countries' actual anti-corruption practices, not only adopted laws and norms - is seen as a pressure tool on politicians to live up to their transparency and clean government pledges.

The real purpose of such a move, by such a dreadful organisation as the present EU, addicted to the secretive abuse of power as it is, has to be to identify the most corrupt individuals in each member state, so that it can hold the threat of exposure over them and thus bend them to its will, in furtherance of their own obscene obsession with grabbing ever deeper and wider powers.
