National Self-Delusion & Deceit over the EU May Climax Today

If the Speaker calls the Tory backbench tabled amendment "respectfully" regretting the absence of any mention of the EU in last week's Queen's Speech, then perhaps, just possibly, Britain's utter hypocrisy, double-dealing and downright deceit over what is now the European Union, might finally have reached its peak!

Our Democracy is dead, the machinations over this amendment by our absent PM in the past forty-eight hours is proof enough of that. Cameron (aided by Clegg) has completely castrated the Constitution, finishing the earlier incisions started by Heath, Wilson, Callaghan,Thatcher, Major, Blair and Brown.

Europe, as may be read here, or in any of the various languages of Europe's mainstream press this morning, is on its last legs, yet all UK attention is focussed on a Bill giving a theoretical EU referendum in 2017, with a General Election certain to come between now and then, the victors of which, will have no legal nor constitutional obligation to honour whatsoever!

Lies, spin and utter nonsense is all it seems that now counts in the Palace of Westminster!

Lord Lawson calls for Britain's EU Withdrawal via early referendum

Nigel Lawson, probably Britain's most successful post-war Chancellor of the Exchequer, has made the ECONOMIC case for the withdrawal of the UK from the EU, further adding to the problems of his party leader by arguing, quite correctly, that any renegotiation of terms would be entirely pointless!

Lincolnshire County Council votes 72 - 7 for EU Referendum

Lib Dems and Independents joined the Tory majority in Lincolnshire in a 72-7 vote for Britons to have a say on their destiny within the union.

Complaining of increased EU powers their motion stated: “Our residents are upset and angry that they have no powers to stem the tide, or change laws imposed on our country, which in part explains the distrust voters generally feel for all mainstream parties. "It is now the time for this country to be given the opportunity through a national referendum for their views to be known.”

Moody's approaches reality in Spain

Anybody looking at Spain, its housing bust, its unemployment, its membership of a potentially tyrannical and certainly dis-functional trading block called the EU, would immediately realize that unless all those basic facts are reversed there is no hope for the country nor the economic welfare of its people.

Yet last night's multiple downgrade of its banks by Moody's, rated only the bonds of Bankia as junk. Read here. 


Mr. de Guindos, however , yesterday accepted the suicidal interdependence of the Spanish banks and Spanish state, read an earlier comment on that aspect from last April from here, aptly titled Hazardous Tango.


Here lie the real political risks that makes all such banks unsuitable for investment. Banks domiciled in Spain, even those having strong overseas assets, are subject to the demands of the Spanish State and soon perhaps an authoritarian, anonymously EU controlled, non-democratically accountable Regulator, who could sequestrate assets at will, or upon a mere whim or unsubstantiated market rumour.


If Britain stays within the EU and goes along with such activities and practices within the Euro Zone, then the suspicion will grow that such financial tyranny could eventually extend to London, that then would be the greatest danger for the Corporation of the City, putting the risks of giving the people a say in their country's future by means of an EU referendum (see my tweet of last evening, on this,) into utter insignificance! 


If Cameron goes along with whatever occurs in Brussels from this Thursday and on into next weekend, that is when a capital flight could begin from London, then Britain truly will be tied to Europe forever and Europe will be a tyranny as defined by Karl Popper, where the rulers may only be replaced by bloodshed.

Why does Clegg wish to remain Deputy PM of a "Pygmy Country"?

Lord Tebbit in his Telegraph blog this ,morning turns his attention to the shallow opportunist who remains, for the time being, the country's Deputy Prime Minister, Nick Clegg, it is linked from here. It concludes that Clegg is worse even than was John Prescott, but for me this passage carries the essential facts on Clegg:

One has to start by trying to understand Mr Clegg. He is British by passport rather than much else. He describes himself (accurately) as European rather than English. He sneers at the country of which he is Deputy Prime Minister as a "pygmy country".

The question posed in the penultimate paragraph of Lord Tabbit's quote, should be one the whole country should be able to ask, with a referendum being urgently provided for their response, just as promised by Mr Clegg in April 2010, as I posted and linked on this blog yesterday:

So we might ask our Deputy Prime Minister: "What about the Eurocrats?" Are they not a closed society in which power is entrenched in the hands of an unaccountable elite? Indeed, so much power that they have recently carried out coups d'état against the elected governments of Greece and Italy.

Cameron reveals complete ignorance over the EU

The British Prime Minister's political private secretary, in refusing a referendum on Britain's continued membership in the surely doomed and certainly completely malfunctioning European Union on the following, totally mistaken view of what the EU now represents, read here:

‘We should not lose sight of the EU’s very useful work, such as ensuring that all the nations of Europe are equipped to face the biggest challenges of the 21st century: global competitiveness, global warming and global poverty.

On this particular Monday, this statement could well go down as perhaps one of the best examples ever of complete and utter crass stupidity!

Does Irwin Stetzer read Ironies Too?

There is an interesting piece in the New Statesman today, by Irwin Stelzer, linked here, in which he argues Labour could zap Cameron by turning anti-EU (only in a run-up to an election one presumes, as usual). I wonder if he had been reading my blog of last Saturday when I suggested the following:

The big question in UK politics, will very soon become, which of the three main parties will be first to crack and offer UK voters an In/Out EU  referendum, UKIP will then only begin to fall back if the voters are stupid enough to be so duped in yet another General Election.

I sense change in the wind

There are no straws as yet but hints of coming enormous events abound. Sensing a change in the weather, as discussed in this interesting link, is one thing, but suspecting significant moves amongst the former major powers of the European Continent, which perhaps just might indicate a long overdue awakening from their long sleepwalk towards collapse and obscurity, is assuredly quite another thing altogether, so let us examine some clues. First must come trade, the essential life blood for most nations, particulary a maritime trading one and even more so a society built on trade by an island race. For decades trade has been a non-issue in Britain, accepted by euro fanatic and eu-sceptic alike as an area delegated to the Common Market, European Economic Community and now the European Union. Yet of late the Coalition Government has been in a state of some agitation to find a figure of sufficient stature for the formerly unimportant post of trade minister. Reactions to the originally announced appointment of Leon Brittan, such as that in The Spectator three weeks ago linked here, were such that a volte face occurred and it became known that the former Thatcher Cabinet Minister and longtime eu-parasite was merely to find a candidate of sufficient stature for the post. Can that be believed, since when, after enactment of the European Communities Act of 1972, have any qualifications whatsoever been required as mere toady to Brussels while nominally speaking for Britain on Trade? Well times have changed indeed, for step forward Stephen Green, Chairman of none other than HSBC, survivor of the credit crunch with no call for Middle East capital injections such as those required by Barclays and recently reported master rat ready to quit the sinking ship of the post-Osborne City of London for the more prosperous roots betrayed in its name, hardly an option for a Midland Bank whose petty acquisition first brought it to these shores! The Guardian report of his appointment last Tuesday is linked here. So Stephen Green must feel he will have a proper job to do. In any re-alignment or re-structuring of the EU, trade will be Britain's Ace of Trumps and will thus need to be carefully and cunningly played with our alternatives meticulously crafted well ahead of any final crunch point. The second sign of serious fall back positions being established came in the daily press briefing from Open Europe of yesterday, linked here, from which comes the following:

AFP reports that French Budget Minister François Baroin was yesterday in London to discuss the upcoming negotiations of the EU budget with, among others, Chief Secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander. Speaking after the talks, Baroin admitted that he did not manage to persuade his British counterparts to re-negotiate the UK rebate. “I have made many efforts and put on the table several arguments. But I have understood that the Britons had no intention of changing their stance”, he said, adding that during the talks he had also made clear that French President Nicolas Sarkozy’s position on the Common Agricultural Policy “is not negotiable”. He concluded, “at least […] these talks have shown the determination of both our countries to defend the respective positions”. France and the UK have agreed to limit the increase to the 2011 EU budget to 2.9 percent from the last year.

Meanwhile, EU Budget Commissioner Janusz Lewandowski has said that he will present a “neutral report” on possible new sources of financing for the EU budget at the beginning of October. However, he refused to reveal if the study would include an EU tax among the considered options.

An EU Tax has always been a step too far for the British, so can we assume that the powers that be are now behind the new EU Referendum Campaign so incompetently launched as I disclosed one week ago today. Did they then, with their loathesome advert threatening cruelty to a tiny puppy, inadvertently reveal their true intent, a referendum timed at a moment of maximum economic peril, when the public's aversion to change would be at its greatest, for use solely as a negotiating ploy with all bets hedged as carefully as possible to obtain the establishment's desired result? Maybe so, but any referendum is a risk in these uncertain and rapidly changing times and no certain outcome can be assured even with the power of the state and entire resources of the EU deployed to ensure that democracy will be finally destroyed across our islands! Last item I will offer for your consideration over this weekend, is a carefully argued posting by an arch EU federalist on his blog published this week and very effectively arguing that no Government wishing to retain its control can forever ignore the stated opposition of a large majority of its countrymen. The entire posting on the Grahnlaw blog is linked here, but I offer this quote from the conclusion to give busier readers a quick chance to gather the drift of the multiply linked remarks: The dichotomy between official EU membership and negative public opinion leads to the question of political legitimacy. Is it right for a “wise” political establishment to disregard public opinion, even if withdrawal would be short-sighted and against the national interest? Are wise decisions the essence of democracy, or is democratic government fundamentally a question of legitimacy? In a democratic society, people assume the consequences of their collective vote, but they later have the right to try to correct their bad choices. Is trial and error the right way for Britain? In conclusion, sensing the wind can be prone to error, but let me quote this passage from the opening link to this posting, which unusually for this blog contains a sermon with a concluding response to the text containing the following: "New winds are blowing. The spiritual climate is changing. The smell of fresh breezes and fresh showers are in the air." I recommend the entire sermon for those with extra time on their hands during this grimly anniversaried weekend! Meantime I still sense change on the wind!

New EU Referendum Campaign

The team seem to have some past track record, we must wait and watch to see if they have any serious intent. The campaign website is here. Opening with a threat against a small innocent puppy smacks of the usual amateur ineptitude which has "dogged" the EU-realist campaigns from the start. OR is this yet one more EU funded campaign to discredit opponents of the Federal Europe now almost complete. Some names in the supporting group I have long suspected of just such an agenda. Following the EU fanatical and establishment Economist seems odd! I for one will not presently be signing their pledge.

LibDems promise an In/Out Referendum on the EU

The Liberal Democrat Foreign Affairs spokesman, Ed Davey, has just promised on a BBC 2 Foreign Affairs debate, with William Hague and David Miliband, that Britain will be given a full IN or OUT referendum on the EU before any more powers are ceded to the EU. Considering that last Friday the EU Commission started pushing for "Economic Governance" and that the LibDems now look poised to be the election winners this is indeed fantastic news.

Cameron and Hague's Lisbon Referendum ploy squashed by Clarke quotation

Yesterday much was made of the normal Conservative double speak about an EU referendum. At Brown's PMQ they were totally crushed, as usual, by Gordon Brown being able to come back with a quote from Ken Clarke now appointed Shadow Business front bencher! I will put the Hansard report of this exchange here as soon as it is published. I quote: Q6. [271549] Mr. David Gauke (South-West Hertfordshire) (Con): At the last general election, the Labour party promised that it would have a referendum on the European constitution and that it would not raise the higher rate of income tax. Given that the Prime Minister is now going to break both those promises, why should the British people ever believe a word he says again? The Prime Minister: On the first question of the European referendum, in the German summit to discuss the constitution-that-was, it was decided that the constitutional concept should be abandoned. That was the issue before us. If I may say so, the shadow Business Secretary, the right hon. and learned Member for Rushcliffe (Mr. Clarke), who is not here today, accepted our view that the referendum was not necessary as a result of the changes that have taken place, and he said—this man is a Front Bencher—that the people who put forward the idea of a referendum were crackpot and daft......

Poland's President under French Pressure over Lisbon.

The Russian gas interruption is being cited as further cause for pushing through the Lisbon Treaty which is understandable enough as once signed Britain loses control of its North Sea hydrocarbon resources just as surely as it was duped out of its fish. The report of fresh pressure on the Polish President to sign may be read from this link. Meanwhile in the FT today David Cameron's pathetic apology for a policy on the EU is hinted at in all its confusion, read here. I ask you what can be made from these quotes: David Cameron, leader of Britain's opposition Conservatives, has vowed to wreck the EU's Lisbon treaty if he emerges victorious from any early general election in the first half of this year.... The Tories believe the treaty - which would create a new EU president and foreign minister and simplify the Union's decision-making procedures - would have the effect of transferring too much power to Brussels.... Mr Cameron says his party is united in its approach to Europe, which includes breaking off its alliance in the European parliament with French and German centre-right parties. How can the Treaty be OK if it is already ratified when he takes power when it "would have the effect of transferring too much power to Brussels"? How can the party be "united in its approach to Europe" when a weekend poll showed 35 per cent of Conservative supporters felt none of the parties reflected their view on Europe and there is a group of his own MP supporting a referendum whether or not Lisbon has been ratified. Truth is his party is united in funking the issue in the vain hope they will gain the perks of Government even knowing the powers have been lost - a morally reprehensible standpoint as it demonstrates they are only in politics for the money and perks! Just like the Labour Party! We must now look to foreigners to salvage our democracy - Irish, Poles, Czechs and YES even the French - after all it was the latter who were the first to reject the EU Constitution and they have not as yet had their final say!

The people of Britain were promised a Referendum by all three political parties, part of the justification for this being subsequently denied was an assertion by the Government that there were no Constitutional implications. Parliament clearly refutes that position.

Ireland's leader is in London today to be bullied by the 'Great Clunking Fist' and complete incompetent Gordon Brown, into forcing his people, the only ones in the EU to be offered a referendum. to vote again on what will certainly be the exact same Treaty. It was gut-wrenchingly sickening to yesterday watch the Queen, who signed and lodged the Lisbon Treaty in Rome in the face of these broken promises to the British people, to perform the State Opening of Parliament before the assembled ranks of peers and MPs who have so recently sold out their country and now so clearly bankrupted the nation in this process. There are hopes in the Czech Parliament of further delay and Ireland remains a problem, but to be sure Britain will never be bound by the terms of EU withdrawal contained in the Lisbon Treaty the people of the UK must demand a referendum before final ratification.

20 years since Bruges

Lord Tebbit will speak tonight in commemoration of Margaret Thatcher's Bruges speech which ultimately led to her toppling by the treacherous EU infiltrators, many of whom still remain in the Tory Party. According to the Daily Telegraph, here:

Lord Tebbit urges Tory leader David Cameron to start to "think about the architecture of such a Bruges-style Europe" which he describes as "a truly European compromise", and have a referendum on it within two years of a new Conservative Government.

He says: "We cannot drift on as we have been. It is not fair either to the British people nor to the European Union.

"We need to show Thatcherite courage and determination to lead the country along that path."

Lord Tebbit's speech marks the anniversary of Lady Thatcher's speech in 1988 when she told the College of Europe in Bruges: "We have not successfully rolled back the frontiers of the state in Britain, only to see them reimposed at a European level, with a European super-state exercising a new dominance from Brussels."

Cameron offers "unqualified" Lisbon Treaty Referendum

The Conservative has "previous" over lying on the EU so we must wait for the hedges to follow his conference speech later today. Meantime the light-wieght continues to clearly demonstrate his vapidity to the Conservative Party faithful!
