Is ex-BP Chief planning a bid for Greece's Oil Industry?

Former head of British Petroleum, Tony Hayward, who stood down after the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, has recently been reported in the financial press, eg here, as raising funds for a return to the oil business. Bloomberg report just now updated see here!

Hayward, a geologist by training, had been expected by this blog to be aiming at the upstream end of the industry, particularly given BP's expertise in deep water drilling.

But given the fire sale of Greek assets about to begin, (if the Greek Cabinet are so bought by the EU as to give it the green light this afternoon,) then perhaps he will end up with some refining and marketing operations as well! Watch this space.
