A Damning Indictment of Britain's Decline

Think for a moment about the import of these three paragraphs from a report in The Times about the latest appalling unemployment figures, linked here:

The new figures emerged as Gordon Brown hosted a meeting with business leaders in an attempt to publicise efforts to expand the number of posts offered at Jobcentres.

Executives from Sainsbury's, Royal Mail, Whitbread, Centrica, National Express and Travelodge all attended the first meeting of the National Employment Partnership in Downing Street this morning.

Mr Brown said: “Around this table are some of the biggest employers in the country. I realise these are very difficult times because of the global financial recession. Consider the calibre of these supposed powerhouses of British ingenuity and high extra employment potential after more than a decade of Labour's lamentable government: Sainsbury - a grocer Royal Mail - the postmen Whitbread - a former brewer now a shadow of its former self Centrica - a remnant of once proud British Gas National Express - a bus company Travelodge - hotel competitor to Whitbread Eh? How can any of these firms, in even the smallest way, do anything whatever to boost employment in the present global depression??? The Prime Minister MUST GO!!!!!!
