Obama targets 'Big Oil' to fund ever more executive waste!

I had the great misfortune to reside in the USA during the dark years of Jimmy Carter's Presidency. Some thoughtful Americans survived those years of complete policy ineptitude by consoling themselves with the thought that the entire process was a necessary act of healing to finally put to rest the ghosts of the civil war by enduring the leadership  of an incompetent President from the former confederacy.

In President Obama, I imagine the same conclusion will eventually be drawn in respect of the ghosts from the era of slavery. In hitting the oil industry to fund yet more wasteful government spending in the face of the trillions of debt already run up, the unsolved housing crisis and the ridiculous socialised medecine scheme similar to that already aiding in the bankruptcy of Britain, however almost beggars belief. Especially as the certain end result will be an  increase in imported energy dependency. Following the abhorrent political victimisation of BP by Obama and his team, BP will be deploying their deep water drilling expertise for the benefit of Russia in the years ahead, yet no lesson has been learned.

The sympathetic reporting on the US President's State of the Union speech may be read in Britain in The Guardian, this morning, linked here.

Obamaism shows its true roots! Europeans take note.

Bloomberg broke the news that President Obama is about to approach the brother of this man, Mayor Richard Daley, to become his White House Chief of Staff, which finally explodes the myth that President Obama is anything other than a product of Chicago machine politics, just as this blogger had always suspected. A good column, by John Kass, on the brother in question, Billy Daley presently of JP Morgan Chase,  is worth reading from the Chicago Tribune, linked here.

Hopefully voters across America and all those starry eyed non-thinking fad followers who hailed Obama's victory all across the world, together with the Nobel Peace Prize Committee, will take note and learn to evaluate the substance rather than the words or presentation before choosing their leaders and/or prize recipients, in the future. The costs of not so doing have yet to fully fall due, neither in America nor across the entire EU!

We must hope that the various crises now hitting the EU will similarly force the powerful anti-democrats, who have been imposing their tyranny across Europe over the past years, from out of the shadows!

Obama in Strasbourg - a blind eye to putative tyranny

The speech by President Obama to an audience consisting mainly of students and dubbed as 'town hall style' with time for questions at the end was in most parts a brilliant demonstration of the new President's grasp of detail and oratorical gifts. If you missed it try and find an online version to watch on video, a link to the Washington Post gives the written version from here. Many might consider these two paragraphs as the grist of the message for Europe when he actually spoke of the Nato Alliance which celebrates its 60th anniversary today: In America, there's a failure to appreciate Europe's leading role in the world. Instead of celebrating your dynamic union and seeking to partner with you to meet common challenges, there have been times where America has shown arrogance and been dismissive, even derisive.

But in Europe, there is an anti-Americanism that is at once casual but can also be insidious. Instead of recognizing the good that America so often does in the world, there have been times where Europeans choose to blame America for much of what's bad.

There could, however, be another passage which might be remembered by history as of far greater significance and it is this: We take for granted the peace of a Europe that's united, but for centuries Strasbourg has been attacked and occupied and claimed by the warring nations of this continent. Now, today in this city, the presence of the European Parliament and the Council of Europe stand as symbols of a Europe that is united, peaceful and free. (Applause.) It is one thing for the military minds in the Pentagon to allow strategic and military considerations to override the realities of democratic legitimacy as I discussed on this blog yesterday, linked here, but it is quite another for a recently elected new President of the USA and himself the head of a party bearing the proud name "Democrats", especially one so well-informed on a multitude of details about the world and its present parlous state, to turn a blind eye to the potentially tyrannical structure of the Strasbourg Parliament that he here extolled! The oft repeated claim that the EU brought peace to Europe is a blatant lie. The forerunners to the EU were merely discussing wine lakes and butter mountains while the real work was undertaken elsewhere. The USA has of necessity always been somewhat selective in picking allies with regimes lacking the basics of democracy, particularly in the second half of the last century in South America. It is distressing, to say the least, to find a new President, celebrating the 60 birthday of the organisation that truly has brought peace to the world, turn his back on the democratic aspirations of some half a billion Europeans! We must hope common sense prevails and that in the coming days, hopefully this weekend in Prague, President Obama will acknowledge the democratic deficit that increases each day within the EU and not turn a blind eye as was done in the 1930s with such horrific costs!

President Obama - Anti- Britain?

There is an important article on-line this morning ahead of President Obama's arrival in London. I recommend it for reading in full from this link, but the following quote highlights the main danger:

........ President Obama's government is strongly backing the European Security and Defence Policy, the Lisbon Treaty, and the Common Foreign and Security Policy. Obama will seek to strengthen French and German leadership at the heart of a united European Union. President Obama has appointed several prominent supporters of European federalism to key positions in the Pentagon and State Department, including the new undersecretary of defense for policy and the next assistant secretary of state for European and Eurasian affairs.

The Obama Administration has already made major concessions to Paris over President Sarkozy's decision for France to rejoin the NATO integrated command structure. The French have been given two major positions at the helm of the alliance, a move that will significantly enhance the drive towards a European defence component within NATO.

President Obama.

It is fitting that all the levers of power in the world's mightiest country will, from the beginning of next year, rest in the hands of the Democratic Party whose misguided philosophy has driven the globe to the brink of total and complete economic collapse. The growing recession, slump or depression will require inspirational leadership, it remains to be seen whether President Obama has either the ideas or the team to allow his actions to match his undoubted oratorical skills and extraordinarily deep pockets. President-elect Obama was perhaps thus very wise in victory to restrict any promises to a new White House puppy for his daughters! He has a huge electoral mandate and a tame Congress, if he falters or fails it will thus not just condemn his Democratic Party to extinction - but possibly the very concept of democracy itself.
