Kosovo, Kosova Again!

This blog has had much to say about Kosovo and the EU down the years as may be read from here. Now we have the always obvious consequences, read here, from which comes this:

Masked Serbs attacked and burned down a border post at the Serbia-Kosovo border yesterday (27 July) and fired at members of NATO's KFOR peacekeeping force. Two days ago Kosovo forces had launched a similar attack. The EU strongly condemned both attacks.

As I commented to a Daily Telegraph comment thread in August 2008, (before they banned me):

"We should best seek to influence only where we have the wherewithal. The EU has gravely erred over Kosovo and as I repeatedly blogged last February the consequences will be severe. The fault lies with the High Representative Javier Solana and the best starting point for the EU to at least begin to recoup matters would be to take the necessary urgent steps for his summary removal. David Miliband would be best employed in gaining support for such a move from his EU colleagues rather than rushing off to Georgia. The pretence that the Lisbon Treaty can be salvaged and the ongoing push for a diplomatic corps and identity (impossible under Nice) further complicates the chaos caused by the existing contradictions between the role of the EU Presidency, the EU Commission and the High Representive. We are part of the EU that has largely caused this mess, we should be working through the EU to clear that portion up before considering how we can thereafter proceed through Nato, the UN or other security bodies. One other thought, will there be any consequences for the Georgian President's TV posturing with the EU flag? If not, why not?"

A few days before that, here, on this blog I had pointed out the following:

When other world leaders take on the increasingly obvious fact that the EU's leaders are solely concerned with power plays within the grouping, shuffling as much cash as possible back to their own party political organisations and clients and maximising their future pensions, perks and positions within the EU organisation - the sooner this dangerous bunch of chancers and no- hopers can be removed from any influence over world events - and the safer and more financially secure we might all become!

Dick Marty being sued for libel over Human Organ Harvesting Affair!

Dick Marty, the Swiss born Council of Europe investigator, born in the mainly Italian speaking Ticino canton, who has previously accused the EU of not wishing the full facts about Kosovo to be revealed, as reported by EU Observer, last February, as may be read from here, is now reported by Swissinfo, linked here, as being sued for libel for €200,000.

Marty's report, demanding urgent action to uncover the facts about the "yellow house", seems to have been left unnoticed since then, unsurprisingly in view of the final paragraphs of February's EU Observer report as follows:

"If I gave [Eulex] the names of the witnesses I interviewed [as called for by the EU], their lives would immediately be under threat."

Instead, a special investigation unit from abroad with a credible witness protection programme is needed, suggested the Swiss politician - something he feels Europe will oppose as it will expose their previous unwillingness to act.

"Europe is never going to accept that. Because it knows that my witnesses would really talk and reveal that a large part of the European politicians knew all along what was going on in Kosovo. Do you really think that Brussels wants to hear something like this," he said.

Marty's fellow Ticinese, former Chief Prosecutor for the UN war crimes tribunal, Carla del Ponte, met similar resistance when trying to bring to account those who deliberately turned a blind eye to Kosovan criminality, which remains a continuing stain on the odious organisation the EU has been allowed to become! The EU Parliament and its MEPs are particularly disgraced by their silence and inaction on this matter.

Kosovo and Turkey

If EU can today midwife Kosova - what need the Lisbon Treaty?

The global super power the USA is pefectly entitled to support and enforce an independent Kosovo, and once the Republican front-runner for the November elections in that country (real elections let it be noted) backed that plan such a course probably became inevitable. Individual member states of the EU are similarly entitled to support such a course having considered their own future relations with Russia and the likely consequences for their own citizens involved in the mechanics. (It is noteworthy here that the onlyEuropean nation that I have so far heard is sending extra troops is Britain, whose battle weary soldiers are already reportedly overstretched from action in Basra and Afghanistan). But surely ahead of ratification of the EU Reform Treaty the EU does not yet really have the powers and authority to so involve itself? If indeed it does then I must question my own daily railings against the iniquitous Lisbon Treaty and its destruction of our Westminster and other Parliaments for that must almost certainly have already effectively come to pass. Has Parliament debated this troop deployment, the foreign relations implications and the EU's whole strategy in the Balkans? It seems certain that Britain's Prime Minister had other problems on his mind over this past weekend, the nationalisation of the failed bank Northern Rock certainly having come about as a result of his own incompetence in formulating a non-functioning regulatory system which throughout his term as Chancellor allowed this bank to operate a clearly flawed and highly dubious business plan, just as his own management of the British economy can now be seen for the con it truly was, as this blog so frequently reported.
