EU Hypocrisy exemplified - Appointed PM Monti urges Buy Italian

Mario Monti was EU Commissioner from 1995 to 2004, with responsibility for the Internal Market, Services, Customs and Taxation from 1995 to 1999 and then for Competition from 1999 to 2004. As such, his career was marked,  this blogger felt at the time, by a move that  had its roots in practises perfected by the Italian mafia, for example by extorting vast sums of cash from Microsoft.

In his MontiMental package of measures publicly presented yesterday he offered nothing which addressed the underlying actions necessary to create growth and promote manufacturing in Italy, which can only come with a withdrawal from the Euro, which itself would cost him his own huge packages of EU payments. Clinging to those is apparently his main priority, no wonder he is too embarassed to actually take a salary from the Italian State which he has devoted his career to destroying!

A full report of the ludicrous measures he did pass is here. Who in Italy one wonders will pay the higher tax on luxury yachts, high earners such as Monti who suffer no tax increase under his measures, can surely buy their toys in jurisdictions outside the reach of Italian VATmen.

What does Monti plan for himself with his buy Italian urgings, dining in Brussels, where no doubt he will spend most of his time, only in his own favourite Italian restaurants?
