Independence or Oppression by China or a New Hansa?

The visit to China by UK Finance Minister Osborne and the Mayor of London Johnson, highlights the stark choices facing democrats and believers in individual liberty who populate both the East and West coastal regions of the North Atlantic ocean and its islands.

The Prayer Book Rebellion of 1549, read here, the spark for which was a religious matter, was more likely a punitive venture by the dying Hanseatic League into the home territories of the adventurers and seafarers, who along with their colleagues from Brittany, Gascony/SW France; the Basque Country and Navarre were challenging their hegemony and the rights of Spain to keep the New World trade all to itself. The British Crown and City Corporation seem to have then been under Hanseatic  control, which was not broken until the reign of Elizabeth I, and the establishment of the Exeter Guild of Merchant Adventurers, in the earliest years of her reign; read here in pdf.

Will Britain fight the growing world trade power of China from within the EU, so remaining  under similar non-democratic control as applies in China itself?  Or can we once again cast aside the shackles of continental hegemony and unite with the heirs of such Merchant Adventurers everywhere, new enemies of despotic collectivism, often still living along  both coastal reigions of the North Atlantic, while restoring where necessary, our own sovereign democracy. That, IMHO is the issue of our times!

Cameron seems now set to sell Britain's roads to China?

Read how China is eyeing up their prey from here. Remind you of anyone?

Witterings from Witney today blames the electors, who could of dreamt that after Major and Blair could come Brown followed by Cameron backed by Clegg and with an upstart like Gideon about to announce a budget to the clearly bankrupt country.

We are like the troops under the lunatic played by Alec Guiness in the film clip above, penniless, straving and in rags, with little hope of survival but still pitifully reliant upon those who have led us into this mess.

When China owns our roads, like the French control our water and jointly with the Germans our electricity and gas supply utilities, will we still be free people, and how will the Chinese and the EU then divide our governance?

China and Germany plan joint control of Europe

The Irish Times has the story, unusually timelined in the middle of a Sunday morning, linked here. It arrives at a time when the world greets with horror the veto by Russia and China at the UN of a resolution designed to prevent President Assad of Syria from continuing the mass murder of his own citizens. Such is where the EU seeks economic salvation. Some quotes:

This time, Mr Wen urged skeptical Chinese citizens to understand that supporting Europe was in their own benefit
"Now Europe is facing a debt crisis and we must consider relations with Europe strategically to protect our national interests," he said while visiting the export-dependent southern Chinese province of Guangdong.
China, with its $3.2 trillion worth of foreign exchange reserves, is often seen as a potential source for funds needed to bail out some European governments.
The Chinese premier's latest comments on the euro crisis again did not include any specific commitments to European economies. But he stressed the stake that China holds in defusing the euro crisis.
"On the one hand, our biggest export market is Europe," said Mr Wen. "On the other hand, Europe is our biggest source for importing technology. From this perspective, helping to stabilize European markets in fact amounts to helping ourselves. We must make all quarters of society understand this point."

Wasted investments in 'Green' energy drive Portuguese to the Chinese!

There is a fascinating report, linked here, from Deutsche Welle, titled "Chinese investment in Portuguese power grid raises eyebrows," explaining how wasted investments in green energy and poltical mishandling in Germany, seem to have driven the main Portuguese electricity supplier into selling a large stake in their company to the Chinese. Some quotes:

What tipped the scales for Three Gorges was that on top of 2.7 billion euros ($3.4 billion) they offered for the EDP shares, the Chinese giant pledged 2 billion euros in follow-on investment, and up to 2 billion euros more in financing for the deeply indebted Portuguese concern.

At a recent signing ceremony at the Portuguese Ministry of Finance, Three Gorges Chairman Cao Guanjing said it was just the start of a larger Sino-Portuguese partnership......

Under the leadership of Chairman Antonio Mexia, who has been in charge since 2005, the company has pursued a green, forward-looking strategy, investing in hydroelectric dams and windfarms in Portugal and other countries. EDP is now the world's number three wind power company.

But while all that investment has been a promising long-term strategy, it has helped put the company into debt in the short term. Some analysts said the government was almost bound to go with a suitor who could help EDP pay down its debts now.....

Until two weeks ago, Germany's E.ON was seen as the front-runner in - not least after company chairman Mexia visited E.ON headquarters in Düsseldorf just days before the Portuguese government announced its decision.

But that visit, along with reports that German Chancellor Angela Merkel was pressuring her Portuguese counterpart to choose E.ON, prompted widespread criticism in the Portuguese press, which have been critical of Berlin's high-handedness in demanding that Portugal undergo structural economic reforms.

Such is what the EU has achieved by its deliberate smashing of the democracies 27 national parliaments all across the Continent of Europe. Resulting, inter alia, in the handing of the utilities of entire  nations to totalitarian foreigners from across the other side of the globe.

In Britain's case perhaps we were comparatively fortunate that our energy supply industries were snapped up earliest by our near neighbours, whom we might eventually coerce to relinquish them!
