Letter to Cameron on failed democracy

I have received a copy of a letter sent to the Prime Minister today which is spot on and completely self-explantory:

Dear Mr Cameron,

President Obama, whilst making a speech on the undemocratic election in Burma said

"For too long the peoples of Burma have been denied the right to determine their own destiny"

Could you explain to me why the peoples of the United Kingdom have been denied, by the politicians in our country, the right to determine our own destiny in relation to the European Union?
