Wednesday's Czech vote in Senate gets EU edgy

The FT's Tony Barber, talks of the Czech Republic weighing its democracy and independence as if it were a recalcitrant child in headlining his posting which summarises the federalist mindset as follows: Prague given chance to redeem itself in EU

The President of the Czech Republic, Vaclav Klaus, whose signature will be required before ratification of the Lisbon Treaty if it passes in the Senate on Wednesday is reported in another post, linked here, to be playing his cards close to his chest. The Polish President is already delaying signature to the Treaty already passed through his parliament pending clarification of the Irish position. In Britain the opposition party has reportedly asked the Foreign Office to prepare a Bill for a British Referendum on the Treaty, but those who follow the British Conservative Party closely (see my blog Teetering Tories) will recognise this as pure hypocritical electioneering in conformity with their historical duplicity on the EU.
