Lisbon Treaty could be buried in Prague - Swedish Report
The conservative paper SvD writes that the result of the forthcoming vote on the Lisbon treaty in the Czech Senate is extremely uncertain. If the required two-third majority is not found in the upper house of the Czech parliament, the Lisbon will be irretrievably dead, it adds.
The reason of why the decision of the drama is to be made by an institution that mostly stands in the background lies in the chaotic situation in the Czech politics and in the divided nature of the governing Civic Democratic Party (ODS), the paper writes.
It says that when the Chamber of Deputies approved the treaty in February, one half of ODS votes were against it, although Prime Minister Mirek Topolanek still had the chance of exerting pressure on them.
Now Topolanek lacks the influence, SvD writes.
