Spot the inconsistencies!

A report indicating that the Polish President has been summoned to Berlin to capitulate over Polish demands in the EU Reform Treaty is linked here. Note the following odd statements it contains: The headline: "Polish president to visit Germany for EU treaty talks"

"German government spokesman Thomas Steg said on Friday that the meeting was taking place at Poland's request." "The current holder of the six-month EU rotating presidency, Portugal, is confident the final version of the treaty will be approved at a summit in Lisbon on October 18-19" "Steg said Berlin was confident it would be able to clear up the "few unresolved points". My question is if Portugal is EU President which is assuredly the case, why did the Portugese President not ask the Polish President to Lisbon? Anyone out there not yet get the answer! Portugal lacks the power and muscle to frighten and coerce the Poles into submission! Welcome to Europe in 2007! Gordon Brown is equally subject to Berlin as well, if not ...... why no referendum?
