Barroso's message to the Queen

Under the EU Lisbon Treaty, in furtherance of other precedents set by earlier EU Treaties, the Queen became a citizen of the European Union, which fate similarly befell all her former British Subjects!

Message of congratulations from President Barroso to Her Majesty The Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
On behalf of the European Commission, I would like to congratulate Your Majesty most warmly on the occasion of your Diamond Jubilee. Throughout the 60 years of your Reign, Your Majesty has inspired hope, cooperation and unity among the peoples of the United Kingdom and the Commonwealth, and has actively and graciously represented the United Kingdom towards European partners and the rest of the world. In this special year of celebration, I would like to express my most sincere best wishes to Your Majesty and the Royal Family.
