German voters deliver shattering defeat to Merkel

In an event, likely to be of huge significance for the whole of the EU, Germany's Green Party appears, this morning, to have won control of the wealthy German State of Baden-Wuerttemberg, a wealthy region along Germany's border with France and Switzerland, which has been under the control of the Christian Democrats since 1953.
