Unite Union considering legal action at Staythorpe

The Newark Advertiser, linked here, reports that a union involved in the dispute with Spanish contracters at Alstom's Staythorpe plant over the non-employment of British labour on their contract may be subject to action alleging racial discrimination. A quote: In a statement, Alstom said of the third contract: “We are well advanced in all contract negotiations at Staythorpe. Details at negotiation stage of a contract bid are confidential. “Alstom always gives all suitably qualified subcontractors from within the EU, including British firms, an equal chance to bid for work packages on its power station construction projects. “In line with both EU and UK employment laws Alstom never has, and never will, tolerate or instruct discriminatory action of any kind. “British subcontractors and their workers on Alstom project sites in the UK will account for around two thirds of the total workforce employed to build a power station.”
