Local news on Staythorpe

The following is from the Newark Advertiser, linked here: The regional officer for Unite, Mr Steve Syson, said: “Our legal department is looking at a legal challenge over potential racial discrimination here. We are assessing that situation and may well be bringing a case.” Mr Syson said between 500 and 800 British workers applied for work on the construction phase at Staythorpe and not one was offered an interview. Polish, Spanish and Hungarian workers are among the nationalities employed at Staythorpe. Unite claims a third contract to provide the piping network on the site has been awarded to an Italian firm that will also bring its own workforce. Protests at the lack of jobs for British workers at Staythorpe started in November.
