Government figures showed 510,000 immigrants have come to work in the UK from Poland and other countries since they joined the European Union in May, 2004.
Statistics for July to September this year show 59,365 new arrivals signed up to the Worker Registration Scheme. But the numbers do not include self-employed workers - thought to include a significant number of Eastern Europeans in the building trade. It also excludes those who are here but not working.
